Marking the return of the fast FPS (in 2017, at last!), Quake Champions offers a successful gameplay by offering a nervous, fast and powerful old-fashioned game! But break its immersion by following the bad fashion of the current games : champions with unique abilities...
This kind of thing may fit very well with League of Legends or Overwatch but it's different, these games are made for.
While for games like Quake or Unreal Tournament where everything is based on skill, the addition of this system can only cause an imbalance... Minimal certainly, but present all the same.
Abilities are not really in question, although some of them offer a huge advantage, however short it may be, it is easy to overcome your opponents' abilities. The killer detail is the fact that each hero has his own statistics... Some have more life, some are faster, some have a better defense. That's where the problem arises: two players at the same level launch into a shotgun duel. The winner will be the one who has the champion with the most basic life. This little luck factor is boring, clearly.<
On the other hand, the weapons, each more devastating than the other, are very well balanced!
Whether you're fighting a railgun player against a rocket launcher player, it's the skill that will determine the winner! I just regret the lack of a secondary firing mode like the Unreal Tournament weapons.
Where it was possible to shoot yourself in the face at sixteen, now you have to do it at eight maximum. Some will prefer but personally I enjoyed the joyful mess offered by a game where almost twenty people were having fun and raging.
This choice of the developers may be explained by the fact that they knew that the game would interest few people (the game was running with peaks of 500 players...). But thanks to a great marketing operation made during E3 2018, there are now an average of 15,000 players. For how long though?).
That's probably also why they put the bots in place. It must have been painful to want to play a game without the power because too few people online... At least now the bots fill the empty seats in the fights. Then is this something that should have been possible from the start of the game...
We add to this the problem of any game in early access to know an anti-cheat far from being effective and you will have the pleasure to make classified games against players using any cheat (AIMbot, godmod ...). Luckily these assholes obviously prefer to do it the "I'm a god of FPS" way and stay on the ranked modes in order to have the biggest virtual cock and don't bother you in normal games.
