The Pokémon World Championships 2011, hosted by The Pokémon Company, are held annually. Last year, the tournament featuring the best Pokémon video game and playing card players was held in Kona, Hawaii. This year's tournament is in San Diego, California, on the west coast of the USA. The tournament runs from August 12-14 and registration is by invitation only.
For those who have not yet received an invitation, please note that you still have one last chance to win your spot by trying to qualify through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCLQ) on August 12 in San Diego. This will be a two-round knockout tournament with just under a dozen invitations to be won in each category. But if you don't qualify, the Pokémon World Championships is also a great way to meet Pokéfans from all over the world, trade and more.
Other side activities are also planned so that no one gets bored. As a rule, exclusive distribution as well as dedications from important Pokémon people (such as Junichi Masuda, Game Director for DS versions) will take place on site. Small tournaments and movie screenings also take place. There's even a shop with lots of exclusive goodies for the biggest Pokémon fans!
